SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT
The goal of Black Local Artists of Cleveland Kuumba (BLACK) is to bring visibility to Black visual and performing artists and creative producers/arts administrators who call Greater Cleveland home. We also aim to help one another network and share information or opportunities with one another, whether it be jobs, contracts, funding opportunities, fellowships, and more.
In 2018, Gwendolyn Garth garnered funding to create and publish a Black Artist Directory, BLACK | Black Artists of Cleveland Kuumba. Kuumba, the sixth principle of Kwanzaa, is a Swahili word that means creativity. This principle is about doing as much as we can in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. We are excited to begin developing the second edition of this publication, and to introduce an online/digital version for 2022 that will be a resource for anyone looking to hire, collaborate with, or commission artists of Black/African descent.
